Caveolin-1 is strongly expressed in different dermal and subdermal cells and physically interacts with signaling molecules and receptors, among them with transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), matrix metalloproteinases, heat shock proteins, toll-like and glucocorticoid receptors.
