Objective of present work was to develop microfluidic-based technique for continuous production of drug (luliconazole)-loaded microemulsion. Pseudo-ternary phase diagrams were constructed, and optimization of concentration of selected formulation components like Capmul MCM, Tween 20 and Transcutol P was done using the Box-Behnken design (BBD). Batch process and microfluidic process were compared in terms of droplet size. Further, microemulsion was loaded into chitosan-based gel, and ex vivo skin...

This paper theorizes the existence of a constant optimum ultrasound process time for any size-reduction operation, independent of process parameters, and dependent on product parameters. We test the concept using the case of ‘ultrasonic preparation of oil-in-water nanoemulsions’ as model system. The system parameters during ultrasonication of a hempseed oil nanoemulsion was evaluated by a response surface methodology, comprising lecithin and poloxamer-188 as surfactants. Results revealed that th...

Abstract Different types of photolytic and photocatalytic advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) were used for treatment of refinery effluents from bitumen production. The treatment efficiency was evaluated by analyzing chemical oxygen demand (COD), biological oxygen demand (BOD5), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and sulfide ions concentration. The studies revealed a synergistic effect of application of external oxidants (O3, H2O2, O3/H2O2) with TiO2 and UV applied for improved COD and BOD5 reduc...

Abstract This study investigated – for the first time - the simultaneous degradation of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and o-xylene (BTEX) by persulfate (PS) and peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activated by asphaltenes (Asph) under ultrasound (US) irradiation. Advantageous properties such as high thermal stability, low production cost and extensive availability make asphaltenes as an appealing carbonaceous material for heterogeneous catalysis. The application of asphaltenes in PS/US increased the degrad...

Abstract Owing to the increasing photosensitivity and DNA damage properties of para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), concerns have been raised over the exposure of humans to PABA. Solar light-driven photocatalysis (SPC) provides a promising solution for the effective removal of organic pollutants especially when directed towards sulfate radical (SO4 −) production. Herein, we have developed a sulfite-enhanced SPC using Eosin-Y sensitized TiO2/Ti film as a photocatalyst. The removal efficiency of PABA wa...

Abstract Nanoscale cadmium stannate (CdSnO3) structures were productively synthesized via a facile and rapid sonochemical route using an eco-friendly capping agent of glucose. In order to optimize the size and structure of products, the various effective factors were inquired such as ultrasound waves, calcination temperature and solvent. The all samples were synthesized under ultrasonic probe for 30 min and different power (frequency) of 80 (24 KHz), 60 (18 KHz) and 40 W (12 KHz). The properties...

Ultrasonic small scale flow reactors have found increasing popularity among researchers as they serve as a very useful platform for studying and controlling ultrasound mechanisms and effects. This has led to the use of these reactors for not only research purposes, but also various applications in biological, pharmaceutical and chemical processes mostly on laboratory and, in some cases, pilot scale. This review summarizes the state of the art of ultrasonic flow reactors and provides a guideline ...

Abstract Powdered stone waste (PSW) obtained from a stone cutting industrial unit was applied as support for the immobilization of nano-sized ZnO to be utilized as an effective catalyst for the catalytic conversion of acetaminophen (ACE) under ultrasonication. The incorporation of ZnO nanostructures into PSW structure enhanced the specific surface area and pore volume of the as-prepared nanocompound. The change in the value of zero point of charge (pH zpc ) of the PSW after being covered also de...

Abstract The present work reports sonochemical preparation of zinc oxide (ZnO) and silver decorated ZnO (9 wt%) with the use of zinc acetate, silver nitrate and sodium carbonate as precursors in 60 min duration. The resulted ZnO and silver decorated ZnO nanoparticles were characterized with SEM, FE-SEM, FTIR, XRD and UV–Vis techniques. XRD analysis reveals hexagonal quartzite crystalline phase of ZnO with highest purity. The doping of silver differs the ionic radii of the elements and that produ...
