Abstract
Catechol oxidases (COs) and tyrosinases (TYRs) are both polyphenol oxidases (PPOs) that catalyze the oxidation of ortho ‐diphenols to the corresponding quinones. By the official classification, only TYRs can also catalyze the hydroxylation of monophenols to ortho ‐diphenols.
