Cardiac transition from concentric (C-LVH) to eccentric left ventricle hypertrophy (E-LVH) is a maladaptive response of hypertension. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), in particular MMP-2, may contribute to tissue remodeling by proteolyzing extra- and intracellular proteins.
