Abstract
Abstract null null There are currently no vaccines or effective drugs to prevent the disorders caused by avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J). Hence, it is critical to identify potential biomarkers in ALV-J-infected chickens to prevent ALV-J-induced disorders. We hypothesized that ALV-J infection alters metabolic profile in chickens. In the present study, a nontargeted metabolomics approach based on liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS) was used to find differential metabolites in plasma samples from ALV-J-infected chickens and healthy controls. The parametric statistical test (Student's t-test) and fold change analysis were used for univariate analysis. Multivariate statistical analyses included principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA). The levels of methyl bromide, pyraclonil, hexaflumuron, lythidathion, 3-phosphoglycerol-glutathione, bis-4-nitrophenyl phosphate, 4-ketocyclophosphamide, oxidized photinus luciferin, phenyl sulfate, and aryl sulfate significantly decreased, whereas the levels of 2-methylthiobenzothiazole, irinotecan, methadone, 3-o-ethyl- l -ascorbic acid, and o-acetylneuraminic acid markedly increased in ALV-J-infected chickens as compared to those in healthy controls. These data provide metabolic evidence and potential biomarkers for ALV-J-induced alterations in plasma metabolism.

BACKGROUND: Metabolomics may represent an avenue for diagnosis of equine ascending placentitis. OBJECTIVES: To characterise the plasma metabolomic profile in healthy mares and mares with induced ascending placentitis, with the goal of identifying metabolites with potential clinical value for early diagnosis of placentitis. STUDY DESIGN: Controlled in vivo experiment. METHODS: Placentitis was induced in 10 late-term pregnant pony mares via Streptococcal equi subsp. zooepidemicus inoculation in fi...

Ascorbic acid is widely used in the food industry as a source of vitamin C or as antioxidant. However, it degrades quickly in beverages at acidic pH and can accelerate the degradation of anthocyanins, natural dyes used in beverages, leading to a loss of color. In this work, we investigated the possibility to replace ascorbic acid by ascorbic acid derivatives to prevent its degradation effect on anthocyanins from natural extracts (black carrot, grape juice, and purple sweet potato). For this, the...

Abstract A delicate dual-readout immunosensor based on tetraphenylporphyrin-polymer dots (TPP-Pdots) with brilliant photoelectrochemical and photothermal performance was first successfully fabricated for the ultrasensitive detection of sialic acid (SA). Herein, TPP-Pdots with good biocompatibility, extraordinary light-harvesting ability and excellent photothermal conversion efficiency was used to capture SA antibody as dual-functional bioprobe for generating photocurrent and temperature signal. ...

Abstract Herein, a boronate-affinity renewable electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor was constructed based on a highly efficient Ru (II)-based composite for the sensitive detection of sialic acid (SA). Specifically, the Bi nanobelts (Bi NBs) was first used as coreactant to prepare a self-enhanced Ru(bpy)32+-Bi NBs composite, producing a strong ECL signal by shortening electronic transmission distance and reducing the energy loss. Additionally, HNO3-assisted synthesized rutile TiO2 mesocrystal...

Introduction Dermatomyositis (DM) is a rare autoimmune myopathy characterized by skin lesions, proximal muscle weakness and muscle inflammation. The pathogenesis of DM is unclear, and identification of reliable biomarkers for early diagnosis of DM is critical for design of a specific therapy for this disease.

The avian leukosis viruses (ALVs) are a major group of retroviruses associated with neoplastic diseases in poultry. The ALV-J strain was identified as a cause of myelocytomas in broiler breeder and broiler chickens in the UK in the 1980s; however, following eradication of the virus, commercial broilers have remained free of infection since the early 2000s. A pet chicken was submitted to Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) in 2013 with a history of croaking respirations, abnormality of the left ...

The fentanyls are a family of drugs that have caused hundreds of deaths in Europe and the United States. They first appeared in the United States in the late 1970s; they were sold as heroin to unsuspecting users. Furanylfentanyl is a potent synthetic drug, an analogue of fentanyl that belongs to the above family. It has no proven medical use, but it is abused throughout the world for its opioid-like effects. The drug is mainly manufactured in China and is distributed worldwide. It is used mainly...
