Abstract
Monocrotaline (MCT) is a pyrrolizidine alkaloid that can induce hepatic sinusoidal damage, pulmonary hypertension, renal toxicity, and heart disease. Monocrotaline N-oxide (MNO), the primary metabolite of MCT, is less toxic; however, it can convert back to MCT to exhibit its toxicity.
