Abstract
This paper gives simple rules to calculate the transmission rate and some other parameters in COVID- 19 from recorded data on the infection, recovery and death through several SIR-based epidemic models. In particular, it is emphasized how the transmission rate is highly dependent on the quarantine or confinement interventions.
