Abdominal artery aneurysm (AAA) refers to abdominal aortic dilatation of 3 cm or greater. AAA is frequently underdiagnosed due to often asymptomatic character of the disease, leading to elevated mortality due to aneurysm rupture. MiRNA constitute a pool of small RNAs controlling gene expression and is involved in many pathologic conditions in human. Targeted panel detecting altered expression of miRNA and genes involved in AAA would improve early diagnosis of this disease. In the presented study...

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been associated with many types of cancers, but their molecular mechanisms in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) have not been fully studied. Therefore, the current study investigated the regulation role of microRNA-205 host gene (MIR205HG) in LUSC and recognized the target genes managed by this lncRNA. MIR205HG expression was assessed by the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) analysis. The effects of silenced MIR205HG on cell biologica...

Non-coding RNAs represent a significant proportion of the human genome. After having been considered as 'junk' for a long time, non-coding RNAs are now well established as playing important roles in maintaining cellular homeostasis and functions. Some non-coding RNAs show cell- and tissue-specific expression patterns and are specifically deregulated under pathological conditions (e.g. cancer). Therefore, non-coding RNAs have been extensively studied as potential biomarkers in the context of diff...

This study aimed to analyze the functions of microRNA 498 (miR-498) on gastric cancer (GC) cell proliferation migration and cisplatin chemosensitivity. QTR-PCR found that miR-498 was markedly downregulated in GC cell lines and human GC tumors. It was discover that, lentivirus-mediated miR-498 overexpression inhibited cancer cell proliferations in vitro and in vivo, invasion and cisplatin chemoresistance. Bmi1 was demonstrated to be directly regulated by miR-498 in GC cell lines. Moreover, Bmi1 u...

Breast cancer is ranked as the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women. Accumulating evidences have revealed that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in human tumorigenesis owing to the regulation of essential pathways for tumor initiation and progression. Herein, the current study aimed to explore the regulatory mechanism of lncRNA ZFHX4-AS1 in breast cancer in relation to the Hippo signaling pathway. Initially, microarray analysis was conducted to screen out different...

Previously, we demonstrated that Prx II is important for survival of the gefitinib-resistant A549 (A549/GR) cell line, an NSCLC cell line derived by repeated exposure to gefitinib. Therefore, in this study, we used A549/GR cells to investigate the role of Prx II in GR NSCLC stemness. Initially, to explore the stemness characteristics and investigate the association of Prx II with those stemness characteristics, we successfully isolated a stem cell-like population from A549/GR cells. A549/GR CD13...

Recently, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are considered as critical regulators in pathogenesis progression of cerebral ischemia. In present study, lncRNA-small nucleolar RNA host gene 14 (SNHG14) was found upregulated in middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R) treated brain tissues and oxygen-glucose deprivation and reoxygenation (OGD/R) treated PC-12 cells. Interference of SNHG14 by shRNA vector enhanced neuron survival and suppressed inflammation in response to OGD/R insult. SNHG...

Osteosarcoma (OS) is considered to be a malignant bone tumour that mainly affects the long bones, but it is also involved in other bones of the body. Currently, surgery and chemotherapy have achieved some response to patients with OS, but they are not increasing the survival rate as well as treatment options. Researchers made lot of drug options for OS, but yet, no treatment is existing in sight for the disease and needs a new insight into the molecular and signaling pathways for the disease. No...

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a group of small non-coding single-stranded RNAs molecules, the dysregulation of which plays a critical role in the initiation and biological progression of malignancies. The current study demonstrated that miR-140-5p was frequently downregulated in breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs), and miR-140-5p mimics could inhibit the proliferation of BCSCs. Moreover, Wnt1 was a direct target of miR-140-5p, as was proved by luciferase reporter assays. miR-140-5p mimics could downregula...

It has been found that microRNAs (miRNAs) play a key role in drug resistance. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the function of miR-182 in trastuzumab resistance in breast cancer cells. The results showed that both breast cancer SKBR3 trastuzumab-resistant cells (SKBR3/TR) and BT474 trastuzumab-resistant cells (BT474/TR) were associated with miR-182 downregulation compared with their parental cells. Ectopic expression of the miR-182 mimic inhibited trastuzumab resistance, decre...
