Abstract Development of creative ability is influenced by multiple factors. This paper explores the role played by family's socioeconomic status (SES) and parents' involvement in their children's creative thinking development. Longitudinal data were collected four times in 5-month intervals from 75 primary school students and their parents. Latent growth curve model has demonstrated that although there was a significant linear increase in children's figural creative thinking, this level of chang...

Abstract The present study examined the interaction of dopamine D2 receptor gene (DRD2) and parenting style on creativity. Participants were 427 Chinese undergraduate students from a project designed to identify the genetic basis of creativity. The result showed that there was significant interaction between DRD2 and authoritarian parenting when predicting creativity. Specifically, it was found that the negative effect of mother/father authoritarianism on creativity was only present when individ...

Abstract Parents’ attitudes, behaviors, and traits are significant predictors of their children’s creative ability. Not much is known, however, about intentional actions taken by parents to develop and support children’s creativity. Based on a literature review and a pilot study (Kwaśniewska & Lebuda, 2017) we have formulated four factors that make up the climate for creativity in a parent-child relationship. To verify the construct empirically, we administered an originally designed questionnai...

Equivalence studies are coming of age. Thirty years ago there were few conceptual models and statistical techniques to address sources of systematic measurement error in cross-cultural studies (for early examples, see Cleary & Hilton, 1968; Lord, 1977, 1980; Poortinga, 1971). This picture has changed; in the last decades conceptual models and statistical techniques have been developed and refined. Many empirical examples have been published. There is a growing awareness of the importance of the ...

Abstract In two studies, we examined the influence of a growth and a fixed creative mindset on task-approach, other-approach and other-avoidance achievement goals, creative self-efficacy, enjoyment, and perceived performance and effort exerted among college business students from Mexico. We conducted both studies in a business educational setting where the development of creative skills is highly valued. Results from study 1 showed a positive influence of a growth creative mindset on task-approa...

Abstract How might researchers better understand the variations in creative learning in and across classrooms? This article addresses this question. We introduce a multi-method approach that we used to explore the more dynamic features of creative learning in ten elementary classrooms. The ten classrooms were first classified into one of three groups (positive, negative, and null), based on the relationship between students’ ( N = 204) measured creativity and academic achievement (average positi...
