Abstract
Abstract Three new sesquilignans, zijusesquilignans A-C ( 1 – 3 ), together with fifteen known compounds ( 4 – 18 ), were isolated from fruits of Ziziphus jujuba var. inermis Rehder (Rhamnaceae) . Their chemical structures were established using spectroscopic analyses including 1D- and 2D-NMR, HR-EIMS, and ECD spectra. These compounds were assessed for their inhibitory effects on nitric oxide (NO) production. Of these compounds, 1 – 3 and 17 displayed inhibitory effects on NO production, with IC 50 values ranging from 18.1 to 66.4 μM. Pretreatment with 1 and 17 significantly suppressed LPS-induced expression of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) protein in cells. Moreover, compounds 1 – 3 , 7 , 9 , and 17 exhibited cytotoxic activities against three human tumor cell lines, with IC 50 values ranging from 8.4 to 44.9 μM.

Ziziphus jujuba var. inermis Rehder is an edible fruit-producing species of the Rhamnaceae family. In the present study, we isolated eight triterpenoids (1–8) from the fruits of Z. jujuba var. inermis and evaluated their apoptotic cell-death-inducing activities in human cancer cell lines (A549, PC-3, and MDA-MB-231). The structures of compounds 1–8 were determined by spectroscopic methods. Among these, four isomers of coumaroyl alphitolic acid showed potent cytotoxic activities on these cancer c...

Abstract Prenylated flavonoids are a unique class of naturally occurring flavonoids that have various pharmacological activities. In the present study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effect in murine macrophages of a prenylated flavonoid, 10-oxomornigrol F (OMF), which was isolated from the twigs of Morus alba (Moraceae). OMF inhibited the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced production of nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-6 in RAW264.7 cells, as ...

Abstract This study investigated the changes in total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), individual phenolic compound content, DPPH radical scavenging activity and antioxidant capacity measured by FRAP assay of four phenolic fractions (free, esterified, glycosided and insoluble-bound) from jujube during three edible maturity stages. The maturity stages of jujubes were established as white maturity (WM), half-red maturity (HM) and red maturity (RM). The free fraction in jujube...

Betulonic acid belongs to the pentacyclic triterpenic derivative class and can be obtained through the selective oxidation of betulin. In this study we set obtaining several functionalized derivatives of this compound by its condensation with several amino compounds such as aminoguanidine, hydroxylamine, n-butylamine and thiosemicarbazide as our goal. The functionalization of the parent compound led to several molecules with antiproliferative potential, the most promising being 3-2-carbamothioyl...

Abstract Our present and previous phytochemical investigations on Leptopus lolonum have resulted in the isolation of almost 30 phenylpropanoid-conjugated pentacyclic triterpenoids (PCPTs). During the continuous study on PCPTs, this kind of triterpenoid ester is considered as a natural product with low toxicity because of it’s widely distribution in natural plants and edible fruits including kiwi fruit, durian, jujube, pawpaw, apple and pear. In the present work, we report the isolation, structur...
