Abstract
Aluminum nanocrystals have emerged as an earth-abundant material for plasmonics applications. Al nanocrystals readily oxidize in aqueous-based solutions, however, transforming into highly stratified γ-AlOOH nanoparticles with a 700% increase in surface area in a matter of minutes.
