Abstract
Abstract Silver nanowires (AgNWs) have been considered as promising materials for fabrication of transparent conducting electrodes (TCEs) due to their suitable optical and electrical conductivity. The current work investigates the effects of the synthesis parameters on the physical and morphological properties of AgNWs-based TCEs and the photovoltaic performances of ITO-free AgNWs-electrode based flexible polymer solar cells (FPSCs). AgNWs were prepared using two different polyol-based methods including modified polyol (MP) and Sigma polyol (SP) processes. These methods differed in the type of applied seed, ratios of PVP/AgNO3 and AgNO3/seed, AgNO3 injection rate and temperature. The reflux condition was used as a novel effective parameter in the MP method. Results showed that MP-AgNWs possessed higher aspect ratio compared to those obtained from the SP process. AgNWs-based TCEs were prepared using spin coating method. The injection volume and the thickness of AgNWs-electrodes were altered to find the optimized electrodes in terms of sheet resistance (Rs) and transparency. The optimized MP-AgNWs and SP-AgNWs electrodes based on H-FoM calculations showed different Rs of 11.3 and 99.3 Ω.sq−1 and transparency of 92.8% and 90.4%, respectively. These electrodes were integrated as the photo-anode in the construction of ITO-free FPSCs. The prepared FPSCs based on the optimized MP-AgNWs electrodes showed PCE of 3.18% which was about 28% higher than that obtained using the best SP-AgNWs electrodes. The photovoltaic performance of MP-AgNWs electrode based FPSC was found to be very close to those of ITO-based reference cell prepared using similar conditions. However, the PCE of these FPSCs was about 18% lower which can be improved by altering the synthesis parameters.

Abstract This paper describes the effect of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in the non-fullerene bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells (BHJ PSCs) by incorporating Ag x -TiO 2 nanocomposites into the active layer. Four types of Ag x -TiO 2 nanocomposites with different contents of Ag and distinctly different crystallite size and great uniformity were synthesized to systematically probe their influences on photovoltaic performances of PSCs. The nanocomposites were studied using x-ray ...

Transparent electrodes attract intense attention in many technological fields, including optoelectronic devices, transparent film heaters and electromagnetic applications. New generation transparent electrodes are expected to have three main physical properties: high electrical conductivity, high transparency and mechanical flexibility. The most efficient and widely used transparent conducting material is currently indium tin oxide (ITO). However the scarcity of indium associated with ITO's lack...

Essentially all of the Ag nanowires reported in the literature have sizes larger than 30 nm in diameter. In this article, we report a simple and robust approach to the synthesis of Ag nanowires with diameters below 20 nm and aspect ratios over 1000 using a one-pot polyol method. The Ag nanowires took a penta-twinned structure, and they could be obtained rapidly ( 85% of the as-obtained solid product) under atmospheric pressure. The key to the success of this synthesis is to restrain the nanowire...

A transparent conducting film composed of regular networks of silver nanowires is obtained by combining a soft solution process (Tollens' reaction) and nanoimprint lithography. The solution-grown nanowire networks show a threefold higher conductivity than grids obtained by metal evaporation. This is due to the larger grain size in the solution-grown nanowires, which results in a strong reduction of electron scattering by grain boundaries.

We demonstrate the polyol synthesis of ultrathin Ag nanowires with diameters of 20 nm and an aspect ratio as high as ∼1000 under high-pressure conditions. The increase in pressure increases density and enhances solubility, making the reactive solution rapidly reach super-saturation and increase the nucleation rate to effect a near-instantaneous formation of Ag nuclei. Clearly, the particle size was small at high pressure and an increase in pressure promoted the formation of small-size Ag seed-pa...

Silver nanowire (AgNW) networks are efficient as flexible transparent electrodes, and are cheaper to fabricate than ITO (Indium Tin Oxide). Hence they are a serious competitor as an alternative to ITO in many applications such as solar cells, OLEDs, transparent heaters. Electrical and optical properties of AgNW networks deposited on glass are investigated in this study and an efficient method to optimize them is proposed. This paper relates network density, nanowire dimensions and thermal anneal...

Silver nanowires (AgNWs) and zinc oxide (ZnO) are deposited on flexible substrates using fast roll-to-roll (R2R) processing. The AgNW film on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) shows >80% uniform optical transmission in the range of 550–900 nm. This electrode is compared to the previously reported and currently widely produced indium-tin-oxide (ITO) replacement comprising polyethylene terephthalate (PET)|silver grid|poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)|ZnO known as F...

Abstract Silver nanowires (AgNWs) have attracted growing interest because of their wide range of applications in modern nano electronic appliances. During polyol method, the presence of cations and anions in the reaction solution has influence on the final morphology of AgNWs. Here we report a feasible way to prepare AgNWs by polyol method. Copper bromide (CuBr2) salt was used to provide anions and cations in the reaction solution. The anions (Br−) helps in reducing the amount of free Ag+ by for...

Transparent conductive films (TCFs) based on silver nanowires (AgNWs) are becoming one of the best candidates in realizing flexible optoelectronic devices. The AgNW-based TCF is usually prepared by coating AgNWs on a transparent polymer film; however, the coated AgNWs easily detach from the polymer underneath because of the weak adhesion between them. Herein, a network of AgNWs is embedded in the transparent hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose film, which has a strong adhesion with the AgNWs. The obt...
