Abstract
A concise and efficient aerobic oxidation and oxygenation approach for the construction of 2-aroylquinolines has been developed through copper-catalyzed annulation of anilines, acetaldehydes, and dioxygen. 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl was employed to direct the selectivity toward the desired 2-aroyl products. Molecular oxygen was used in this transformation as an environmentally benign source of oxygen.

A highly selective copper-catalyzed concise synthesis of 3,5-diarylpyridine and 2-(1H)-pyridone has been achieved through cascade Chichibabin-type cyclization, C(sp3)–C(sp3) cleavage, and aerobic oxidation. Azide, ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN), and 2-aminopyridine are disclosed as efficient nitrogen donors in this Cu-catalysis using O2 as the oxidant. Water and molecular oxygen were employed as the oxygen source in the case of oxygenation.

An efficient method for the direct synthesis of substituted quinolines from anilines and aldehydes through C–H functionalization, C–C/C–N bond formation, and C–C bond cleavage has been developed. The method is simple and practical and employs air as an oxidant.

An organocatalytic aldehyde C–H bond arylation process for the synthesis of complex heteroaryl ketones has been developed. By exploiting the inherent electrophilicity of diaryliodonium salts, we have found that a commercial N-heterocyclic carbene catalyst promotes the union of heteroaryl aldehydes and these heteroaromatic electrophile equivalents in good yields. This straightforward catalytic protocol offers access to ketones bearing a diverse array of arene and heteroarene substituents that can...

Employing sulfonyl azide as a nitrogen donor, a visible-light-enabled aerobic dealkylative imidation of tertiary and secondary amines involving C(sp3)–C(sp3) bond cleavage with moderate to excellent yields at room temperature is described. It has been demonstrated that this imidation could take place spontaneously upon visible-light irradiation, and could be facilitated considerably by a ruthenium photocatalyst and oxygen. An alternative mechanism to the previous aerobic photoredox pathway has a...

Abstract The quinoline scaffold is present in numerous alkaloids and bioactive compounds often associated with remarkable biological properties. Common approaches to assemble the quinoline ring system include the Skraup, Friedlander, Combes, Doebner-von Miller, and Conrad-Limpach reactions, but the utility of these synthesis methods is limited by their harsh acidic and extreme reaction conditions. Similarly, the isoquinoline moiety is a key structural feature of many natural products and pharmac...

A TEMPO-catalysed direct amination of arene through C–H bond cleavage employing N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide (NFSI) as the amination reagent in good to excellent yields with broad arene scope in the absence of any metal, ligand or additive is reported. Unlike previous transition metal-catalysed aminations in which high reaction temperatures are usually necessary, this novel reaction at room temperature is the first example of C–H amination with NFSI that is realised via organocatalysis. The probab...

BACKGROUND: Quinoline-containing compounds present in both natural and synthetic products are an important class of heterocyclic compounds. Many of the substituted quinolines have been used in various areas including medicine as drugs. Compounds with quinoline skeleton possess a wide range of bioactivities such as antimalarial, anti-bacterial, anthelmintic, anticonvulsant, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic activity. Due to such a wide range of applicability, the synthesis of quinoline ...

An iron-catalysed intermolecular vicinal aminoazidation of alkenes, using N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide (NFSI) and trimethylsilyl azide (TMSN3) as the imidating and azidating reagents respectively, is described, which could potentially provide a valuable route toward diverse vicinal diamine derivatives of great significance in medicinal chemistry and organic synthesis. Such iron-catalysed aminative bisfunctionalization of alkene with NFSI has not yet been reported before. Comparing to previously em...
