Abstract
Nigrosporanenes A (1) and B (2), two new cylohexene derivatives, and tyrosol (3) were isolated from the sea fan-derived fungus Nigrospora sp. PSU-F11, whereas five known compounds: 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4), aplysiopsene D (5), 3-isochromanone (6), (−)-drimenin (7) and diketopiperazine derivative (8), were obtained from the fungus Nigrospora sp. PSU-F12. Their structures were established by spectroscopic evidence. We also tested their cytotoxic (on African green monkey kidney fibroblast and breast cancer cells), antioxidant (in the DPPH assay), and antibacterial (against the standard Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and methicillinresistant S. aureus) activities.

Twenty derivatives of aphidicolin were tested against HSV (herpes simplex virus), HCMV (human cytomegalovirus) and adenovirus in vitro. In addition, the antiviral activity of aphidicolin (CAS 38966-21-1) in combination with aciclovir (CAS 59277-89-3) or cidofovir (CAS 113852-37-2) against HSV was determined. The antiviral effects were evaluated using plaque reduction assay in Vero cells or human Foreskin Fibroblasts (HFF) for HSV and HCMV, respectively. Combination indexes were calculated using ...

Abstract Spiroleptosphol B ( 2 ), spiroleptosphol C ( 3 ), norleptosphol C ( 4 ) and hydroleptosphol ( 5 ) were isolated from ascomycete Leptosphaeria doliolum . Detailed 1 H and 13 C NMR spectral analyses revealed these were structural analogues of spiroleptosphol ( 1 ) which we have recently isolated from the same fungi. Spiroleptosphol B ( 2) carried an unprecedent 5,3-dioxatricyclo[4.4.0.1 1.4 ]undecane framework in place of the spirobicyclo ring system of 1 . Spiroleptosphol C ( 3) was a 17...

A novel γ-methylidene-spirobutanolide spirolephtoshol (1) was isolated from ascomycetous fungus Leptosphaeria doliolum as a cytotoxic compound. The relative structure was established by the NMR analysis involving the NOE experiments. Absolute structure of the bicyclic moiety was determined by chemical derivation followed by the CD analysis. The relative and absolute stereochemistry of the side chain was established by comparison of the 1H NMR spectra and the chiral GC chromatograms of the degrad...

Abstract By using lipase ‘PL-266’ from Alcaligenes sp. enantioselective acetylation of (±)-albicanol 4 with isopropenyl acetate gave the enantiomerically pure (+)-albicanyl acetate 3 and (+)-albicanol 4. Deprotection of (+)-3 afforded the natural (+)-albicanol 4 which was converted to the natural products (−)-albicanyl 3,4-dihydroxycinnamate 7, (−)-drimenol 8, (−)-drimenin 9 and (−)-ambrox 10.

Abstract null null In this work, novel 1,4-diacetyl-3,6-bis(phenylmethyl)-2,5-piperazinedione (2) is prepared exclusively as the (R,S)-stereoisomer evidenced and confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. In addition, spectroscopic (NMR, IR, Raman) analyses were used to characterize the new compound. 2 crystallizes in the Pbca orthorhombic space group, with a symmetry center located at the centroid of the diketopiperazine ring. The structure of 2 is compact with the two phenyl rings folded over an...

In this regard, antimicrobial profiling of fungal endophytes from medicinal plant Adiantum philippense revealed bioactive Nigrospora sphaerica from the leaf segment. Chemical and biological profiling through TLC–bioautography and hyphenated spectroscopic techniques confirmed the presence of phomalactone as an antimicrobial metabolite. The chemical inv...

The spread of studies on biodiversity in different environmental contexts is particularly fruitful for natural product discovery, with the finding of novel secondary metabolites and structural models, which are sometimes specific to certain organisms. Within the large class of the epipolythiodioxopiperazines, which are typical of fungi, thiosilvatins represent a homogeneous family that, so far, has been reported in low frequency in both marine and terrestrial contexts. However, recent observatio...

Marine fungi are promising sources of bioactive metabolites. The wide array of fungal metabolites produced depends on the origin of the marine fungi, as their habitats are diverse, including living symbiotically with marine sponges and algae, or found in mangrove and bottom sediments. The metabolites discovered from marine fungi possess a range of biological activities, including antibacterial, antiviral, and anticancer activity. Some metabolites from these fungi have been used in beauty product...

Phytochemical investigation of the stem of Syringa pinnatifolia Hemsl led to the isolation of 13 lignans (4–12, 14–17) and four phenolic compounds (1–3, 13), in which a new lignan (14) was isolated from this plant and compounds 5 and 6 were found for the first time in the genus Syringa. Lignans are major compounds in this plant, which may be used as chemotaxonomic markers for the genus Syringa.

The drimane sesquiterpenoids drimenin, cinnamolide, dendocarbin A, and polygodial were purified from the Canelo tree (Drimys winteri) and chemically characterized by spectroscopic methods. The pharmacological activity of these natural compounds were determined on hα4β2, hα3β4, and hα7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (AChRs) by Ca2+ influx measurements. The results established that drimane sesquiterpenoids inhibit AChRs with the following selectivity: hα4β2 > hα3β4 > hα7. In the case of hα4β2 A...
