Abstract
Abstract This paper is a discussion of “Optimization for buckling loads of grid stiffened composite panels”. That paper presented an improved smear method to study the buckling behavior of stiffened composite cylindrical shells. Although this is a simple and efficient procedure but there is a basic error in superimposing the stiffness matrices of the shell and the stiffeners and calculating the equivalent stiffness parameters. This error is shown by two simple examples.
