Background Pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) procedures are used for the surgical treatment of macular hole retinal detachment (MHRD) associated with high myopia. Re-detachment of the retina has been reported in MHRD associated with high myopia. Our aim was to evaluate the 1-year outcomes of vitrectomy, performed using an inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique with gas tamponade, in five cases of MHRD associated with high myopia.

Objective Behcet's disease (BD) is a chronic, relapsing, inflammatory vascular disease with no pathognomonic test. Low sensitivity of the currently applied International Study Group (ISG) clinical diagnostic criteria led to their reassessment. Methods An International Team for the Revision of the International Criteria for BD (from 27 countries) submitted data from 2556 clinically diagnosed BD patients and 1163 controls with BD-mimicking diseases or presenting at least one major BD sign. These w...

To evaluate the role of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for the treatment of vitreoretinal complications of ocular Behcet disease (BD). Methods. Retrospective review of the medical records of all patients who underwent PPV for vitreoretinal complications of Behcet uveitis in the Ophthalmology Department of the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain, from January 1994 until December 2011. Preoperative and postoperative best-corrected visual acuities (BCVA), ocular findings, treatments, surgic...

acular holes secondary to uve-itis are known to occur onlyextremely rarely and therefore fewcaseshavebeenreported(Angioi-Duprezet al. 2001; Kusaka et al. 2003; Georg-alas et al. 2008). Accordingly, the patho-genesis of uveitic macular hole formationand the most appropriate therapeuticmethods have not been established andtreatment outcomes are unclear. Wedescribe a case series of macular holessecondary to uveitis, all of which weresuccessfully closed with vitrectomy. The medical records of patient...

PURPOSE. A rare case of unilateral retinal detachment due to a macular hole in a patient with Behcet disease is presented. METHODS. Interventional case report. RESULTS. A 31-year-old man with a 6-year history of Behcet disease presented with a relapse in his disease and received infliximab. Ten days later, as the inflammation subsided, a retinal detachment caused by a macular hole was diagnosed. The patient underwent vitrectomy surgery with internal limiting membrane peeling and silicone oil tam...

Purpose To characterize the clinical features of Behcet's disease in Chinese patients. Design Retrospective noncomparative case series. Participants Seven hundred seventy-five eyes of 437 patients with Behcet's disease initially examined from August, 1995, through June, 2006. Methods The history, demographic parameters, and clinical findings of all consecutive Behcet's patients referred to the uveitis study center of Sun Yat-sen University were reviewed. Laser flare-cell photometry (LFCM), fundu...

Objective To investigate the impact of cystoid macular edema (CME) on visual acuity in patients with uveitis. Design Cross-sectional study. Participants The data from 529 patients (842 eyes) with uveitis were analyzed. Main Outcome Measures We recorded gender and age of the patients, anatomic site and diagnosis of uveitis, associations with systemic diseases, onset and duration of uveitis, presence of CME, best-corrected visual acuity, and the causes of decrease in visual acuity. Results Cystoid...

Purpose: Despite intensive, chronic immunosuppressive therapy, permanent loss of vision resulting from relapsing ocular inflammation occurs frequently in patients with Behcet’s disease. Since tumor necrosis factor (TNF) might have an important pathogenetic role in Behcet’s disease, monoclonal anti-TNF antibody treatmant has introduced for chronic Behcet’s disease. We report three cases of chronic Behcet’s disease that were treated by monoclonal anti-TNF antibody. Methods: We describe the use of ...
