The Tumour Control Probability model and Normal Tissue Complication Probability model (TCP and NTCP, respectively) were the first tools used by radiobiologists and oncologists to determine the best radiotherapy (RT) dose prescription to the tumor. This optimal prescription results from a compromise where the upper limit is given by the tolerance of an organ to the radiation, rarely by a substructure of the organ of interest and less frequently by a combination of more structures or organs that, if damaged, can lead by inefficient cooperation to a specific dysfunction.
