ABSTRACTBy means of creep property measurement and microstructure observation, the influence of element Ru on the microstructure and creep behaviour of single crystal nickel-based superalloy is investigated. The results show that the plate-like μ phase is precipitated along {111} plane of the Ru-free alloy during thermal exposure at 1080°C and creep at 980°C. Abstract We propose a general theory of Ostwald ripening for prolate spheroidal particles in a nonideal nondilute multicomponent alloy. The diffusion problem of a growing or shrinking particle is solved using prolate spheroidal coordinates under the assumption that the spheroidal particle has a constant Wulff shape. This work discusses the effects of alloying on the coarsening behaviour of the L12 ordered γ′ phase and the structure of the γ/γ′ interfaces in three Co-Al-W base superalloys aged at ∼90 °C below the respective solvus temperatures: Co-7Al-7W, Co-10Al-5W-2Ta and Co-7Al-7W-20Ni (at.%). Abstract The interrupted creep tests ( e =0.1%) of a fourth and a sixth generation Ni-base single crystals, i.e. MX-4/PWA 1497 and TMS-238, were conducted at 800 °C and 735 MPa along [001]. TMS-238 had a creep time more than sixty times longer than MX-4/PWA 1497. The creep behavior of a single crystal superalloy is investigated at the dendritic scale. The chemical segregation in the dendritic structure is correlated to strain heterogeneities after creep experiments on ultrathin specimens. It is shown that primary dendrite axes have a strengthening effect.
