Abstract
Renal ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) can result in impaired ability of urine concentration and increased sodium fractional excretion. Apelin, a (neuro) vasoactive peptide, enhances diuresis by increasing the renal microcirculation and by counteracting the antidiuretic effect of arginine vasopressin on the tubules.
