Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS), such as perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS), and ammonium perfluoro-2-propoxypropionate (GenX), contaminate ground and surface waters throughout the world.
