Abstract Magnetron-sputtering deposition of coatings onto a flat surface is well established, but coating metal on the curved surface of nanoparticles (NPs) is still challenging. Herein, by using a magnetron sputtering system in which a vibration generator with variable frequency is applied to the sample stage to maintain NPs' dispersity and movability, we successfully deposit noble metal (Au, Ag, Pt) nanodots onto the surface of TiO 2 NPs. It is found that the metal nanodots are of a size of 1–...

The construction of a composite photocatalyst with two suitable semiconductors is an effective strategy to improve the transport and separation of the photoexcited carrier pairs. Herein, it is the first time to report the new concept of anisotropic heterojunctions (H and J type) in layered ZnIn2S4 nanosheets as an example. Due to the anisotropic conductivity, the resistance of the electron transfer along ZnIn2S4 layers to a second semiconductor (J type heterojunction), is much less than that acr...

Abstract Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution is a potential route for converting inexhaustible solar energy into available clean chemical energy. Herein, highly efficient and stable Cu 2 (OH) 2 CO 3 /TiO 2 photocatalysts for hydrogen generation are prepared by incorporating Cu 2 (OH) 2 CO 3 clusters onto the surface of TiO 2 through a facile precipitation method. The obtained Cu 2 (OH) 2 CO 3 /TiO 2 photocatalyst with optimal Cu 2 (OH) 2 CO 3 content of 0.5 mol% shows an outstanding photocatalytic...

A new strategy has been developed to design sulfides photocatalysts with superior stability without any noble metal deposition. The as-designed Ag8SnS6 showed capability of steadily evolving hydrogen for at least 400 h without any deactivation and the turnover number is as high as 95.8.

Abstract There is a worldwide debate about which energies are more efficient and renewable energy systems. This discussion comprises hydrogen and fuel cells as potential emerging technologies. However, information about hydrogen technology remains somehow unknown to a broader public. Currently some technologies supporting hydrogen productive chain are not so competitive and this means a tight bottleneck. Expectation is that this would be the most promising innovation in a new energy system based...

Abstract This work reports the green synthesis of the Cu/reduced graphene oxide/Fe 3 O 4 (Cu/RGO/Fe 3 O 4 ) nanocomposite as a new catalytic system for cyanation of aldehydes to nitriles. This nanocomposite catalytic system was synthesized by aqueous extract of leaves of Euphorbia bungei Boiss as a reducing and stabilizing agent. Various substituted aryl nitrile were prepared under optimized conditions and providing moderate to excellent yields. In this process the catalyst exhibited a strong ma...

Abstract Cu-Cu 2 O nanoparticles (NPs) decorated porous graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) (Cu-Cu 2 O/g-C 3 N 4 ) photocatalysts were prepared. When investment of copper source materials in the experiment increased to 7 wt%, the highest H 2 evolution rate (400 μmol g −1 h −1 ) was obtained under visible light irradiation in triethanolamine solution. This is about triple of pure g-C 3 N 4 (140 μmol g −1 h −1 ). Moreover, various amount of Erythrosin B dye was added into Cu-Cu 2 O/g-C 3 N 4 pho...

Climate change and fossil fuel depletion are the main reasons leading to hydrogen technology. There are many processes for hydrogen production from both conventional and alternative energy resources such as natural gas, coal, nuclear, biomass, solar and wind. In this work, a comparative overview of the major hydrogen production methods is carried out. The process descriptions along with the technical and economic aspects of 14 different production methods are discussed. An overall comparison is ...

Abstract Triphenylamine functionalized bithiazole-cobalt complex ( Co-2TPABTz ) sensitized by Ag nanoparticles (NPs) exhibit highly efficient photocatalytic hydrogen generation. The resulting composite 3 showed excellent photocatalytic activity (20.65 mmol h −1 g −1 ) under visible light illumination, and maintained outstanding long-term stability after eight-cycle tests (32 h) as well.

A series of CuZn/xCe-ZnAl2O4 catalysts (CZ/xCe-ZAO) with different contents of Ce doping (x = 0, 3, 5, and 7 wt%) were prepared by precipitation. The samples were applied for the hydrogenation production from methanol decomposition. Ce doping was found to effectively improve the reaction activity of the catalysts. CZ/5Ce-ZAO exhibits 100.0% methanol conversion and selectivity to hydrogenation of 98.9% at 300 °C (WHSV = 1.5 h−1), which is superior to those of the comparison catalysts. Moreover, t...

The electrical conductivity and porosity of the 2-dimensional metal-organic framework Cu3(2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene)2 [Cu3(HHTP)2] make it a promising candidate for thermoelectric applications. In this work, we report the electrochemical synthesis of Cu3(HHTP)2 films by an anodization approach and an evaluation of its thermoelectric properties. The electrochemically synthesised Cu3(HHTP)2 thin films were transferred using a wet chemical method in order to perform electrical measureme...

Abstract Enhanced and selective photocatalytic oxidation of nonylphenol (NP), a typical hydrophobic endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), was realized on hydrophobic titanium dioxide nanotubes (H-TiO2NTs), which was fabricated by an electrochemical anodization method, followed by grafting of perfluorooctyl groups. The water contact angle of catalyst surface changed from 21.1° to 128.4° after hydrophobic modification. H-TiO2NTs showed excellent photocatalytic oxidation performance for NP, that i...

Polyaniline(PANI)-decorated Cu nanoparticles were prepared by a facile solvothermal method. Different reaction temperatures resulted in different morphologies of the Cu/PANI composites, which exhibited good photocatalytic activities. When the mass ratio of PANI increased to 2.5 wt%, the H2 evolution rate reached 1.97 mmol g−1 h−1 in lactic acid solution under solar light irradiation, which is about 2 times higher than that of pure Cu nanoparticles (1.06 mmol g−1 h−1). The introduction of PANI ca...
