Epidemiological studies have determined the associations between polymorphisms on the promoter of MDM2 (SNP309) and the codon 72 on exon 4 of p53 (p53 Arg72Pro) and the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, the results were not always consistent.
