The phase equilibrium data for the ternary systems isobutyl acetate + {ethanol or methanol} + water were determined at temperatures of 303.15 and 323.15 K, and pressure of 101.3 kPa. Both Hand and Bachman methods were used to evaluate the validity of the experimental data in the present work. In addition, the nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) and universal quasichemical (UNIQUAC) models were applied to fit the experimental tie-line data, and the binary interaction parameters of the thermodynamic models were fitted. The root-mean-square devation values obtained for the NRTL and UNIQUAC activity coefficient models are less than 0.0081, which indicates that the correlated results agree with the experimental data. Moreover, the distribution coefficients and selectivities were determined and discussed.

Abstract The activity coefficient models of Wilson, Nonrandom Two Liquid Theory (NRTL) and Universal Quasi-chemical Theory (UNIQUAC) are of the most applied chemical thermodynamic models in phase equilibria calculations and materials behavior prediction and/or correlation. The reliable and accurate evaluation and determination of interaction/adjustable parameters defined in these models, which are necessary for any future applications of models in binary and multicomponent systems, requires the ...

Abstract Liquid–liquid equilibria (LLE) data for the ternary systems of water + acetic acid + 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene and water + acetic acid + 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene were measured under atmospheric pressure at (303.2–343.3) K. The reliability of the experimentally determined tie-line data was verified by comparison with the literature data. Both the nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) and the universal quasi-chemical activity coefficient (UNIQUAC) models were adopted to correlate the experimental LLE da...

In this work, liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLE) data for the two ternary systems methyl laurate + ethanol + glycerol and methyl myristate + ethanol + glycerol were measured at 318.15 K and 333.15 K under atmospheric pressure. The reliability of the experimental tie-line data was checked by the Othmer–Tobias correlation. The LLE experimental data were correlated with the nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) model, and the binary interaction parameters were regressed by the data fitting. The correlated resul...

Liquid–liquid equilibria data were determined for four ternary systems of water + alcohol + methoxycyclopentane (CPME); the alcohols used were methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, and 2-propanol. All measurements were performed at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. Binodal curves were experimentally determined using both the cloud-point method and tie lines. The reliability of the tie-line data were verified by the Hand and Othmer–Tobias plots. Distribution coefficients and separation factors were det...

In this study, a substitutive entrainer is found for the azeotropic process of water and isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLE) data are measured for the ternary systems of water–IPA–benzene, water–IPA–cyclohexane, and water–IPA–hexane at three different temperature values: 303, 313, and 323 K. The liquid–liquid equilibrium data are developed via an experimental setup equipped with equilibrium cell, magnetic stirrer, and gas chromatography units. Equilibrium compositions for th...

Abstract Liquid–liquid (LLE) and liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLLE) data for the ternary system water–acetonitrile–cyclohexene were obtained at 298.15 K and 99.06 kPa. The results of mathematical modelling of LLE and LLLE with the use of the NRTL and UNIFAC models were compared. Both models provide a good description of vapour–liquid equilibrium (VLE). It was determined that the experimental and calculated (NRTL) data are in good agreement, and it was demonstrated that the UNIFAC model could not b...

Abstract The nucleus of mammalian spermatozoa is mainly composed of chromatin associated with protamines: highly basic proteins (around 7 kDa). These highly basic proteins, due to their cysteine content, can participate in the generation of disulfide bond. These characteristics permit typical condensed nuclear structure in mature spermatozoa, where the DNA becomes organized in compacted units, similar to nucleosomes, but with 60 kb of DNA. This shape is ultimately assumed in the epididymal matur...

Abstract This study was designed to improve the stability of liquid formulations of recombinant influenza hemagglutinin (rHA) and to understand the mechanism of early loss of potency for rHA. The potency of rHA derived from several influenza strains was determined using single radial immunodiffusion (SRID), and the structure of the rHA was characterized using SDS–PAGE and dynamic light scattering. rHA formed disulfide cross-linked multimers, and potency decreased during extended storage. To redu...

Liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLE) data for the ternary system 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-octafluoro-1-pentanol + ethanol + water have been reported at (298.15, 308.15, and 318.15) K and 0.1 MPa. The Bachman equation and the Hand equation were used to confirm the reliability of the experimental tie-line data. The experimental data were correlated by the nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) model, for which the calculated results show good agreement with the ternary LLE data, and the binary interaction parameters of NR...

Abstract The vapor pressures of the binary systems (water + [OMIM][BF4], water + [OMIM][Tf2N], and water + [OMIM][PF6]) were measured by a modified equilibrium still at temperatures ranging from 323.15 to 358.15 K and water mole fraction ranging from 0.1 to 0.9 for water + [OMIM][BF4], from 0.1 to 0.4 for water and [OMIM][Tf2N] and from 0.05 to 0.45 for water + [OMIM][PF6] binary systems, respectively. The experimental results indicate that with the addition of ionic liquids (ILs) the vapor pres...

Abstract In this work ionic liquids (ILs) as a novel popular solvents are proposed for removing butan-1-ol from the aqueous fermentation media. Ternary liquid-liquid phase equilibrium data are presented for mixtures of {ionic liquid (1) + butan-1-ol (2) + water (3) } at T = 328.15 K and ambient pressure. The ILs with long alkane chains such as hexadecyltrimethylammonium bis{(trifluomethyl)sulfonyl}imide, [N 16,1,1,1 ][NTf 2 ], 1,3-didecyl-2-methylimidazolium dicyanamide, [D 2 MIM][DCA] and tetra...

Abstract To separate thioglycolic acid (TGA) from its aqueous solution by ionic liquids (ILs), sixty imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) were screened by using the COSMO-SAC model based on the evaluation of the selectivity, capacity and performance index, which were derived from the activity coefficient at infinite dilution. Meanwhile, the effects of the different anions and the alkyl chain length of the cations for the separation of TGA were analysed by the σ -profile for each component. Cons...
