Abstract
Ni–Mn–Ga is a ferromagnetic shape memory alloy that exhibits large, magnetic-field- and stress-induced strains via energy dissipating twinning when processed into single crystals. Grain boundaries suppress twinning and render polycrystalline Ni–Mn–Ga brittle.
