Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a significant cause of visual loss in the United States and Western Europe. As the population ages, the prevalence rate of advanced AMD is expected to double by 2030. Following the hypothesis that chronic ische- mia is the main cause of functional deficiency in glau- coma, a double blind clinical experiment was carried out to study the effect of hyperbaric oxygenation in 51 glau- coma subjects, of which 31 were in the experimental group and 20 in the control group. In the experimental group there was a significant improvement of visual fields (p 0.05).
