Abstract
Two-year-old smolts of Saint John River stock reared at the Mactaquac Fish Culture Station and released (sea-ranched) from that facility to the Saint John River gave returns to the Mactaquac area of grilse to larger salmon in a ratio of 1.70 : 1 whereas smolts of the same stock and rearing history gave grilse to immature salmon in a ratio of 0.01 : 1, following 19 months rearing in a sea cage at Deer Island, New Brunswick.
