We consider a mathematical model that describes the frictional contact of an electro-elastic body with a semi-insulator foundation. The process is static; the contact is bilateral and associated to...

This paper presents a framework for implementing a novel Perfectly Matching Layer and Infinite Element (PML+IE) combination boundary condition for unbounded elastic wave problems in the time domain. To achieve this, traditional hexahedral finite elements are used to model wave propagation in the inner domain and infinite element test functions are implemented in the exterior domain. Two alternative implementations of the PML formulation are studied: the case with constant stretching in all three...

This paper solves the frictionless receding contact problem between a graded and a homogeneous elastic layer due to a flat-ended rigid indenter. Although its Poisson’s ratio is kept as a constant, ...

The paper presents a coordinate-free analysis of deformation measures for shells modeled as 2D surfaces. These measures are represented by second-order tensors. As is well-known, two types are need...

Auxetic behavior refers to lateral widening upon stretching or, in reverse, lateral shrinking upon compression. When an initially auxetic structure is actuated by compression or extension, it will ...

A method proposed earlier, relying on the use of harmonic Cartesian polynomial and rational functions, is extended here to find a semi-analytical solution to the uncoupled, two-dimensional problem ...
