Ultra-short pulsed laser ablation enables a defined generation of micro-holes. A parameter study on the ablation characteristics of copper clearly reveals a benefit for green wavelength with lower threshold fluence, simultaneously increasing the Rayleigh length. The use of a circular drilling method allows a defined manufacturing of micro boreholes and micro through-holes with 35 μm diameter of up to 165 μm and 300 μm length. Introducing high-resolution micro-computed X-ray tomography studying t...

DEFORM-3D software was used to simulate the forging process with liquid core. Three orthogonal tests were designed to obtain the results with solid-phase thickness, reduction amount and pressing speed as three factors. The significant factors were acquired by the range analysis which affected the values of the equivalent strain and the equivalent stress in the solid-phase region, the solid–liquid two-phase region and the liquid-phase region. We mastered the deformation law during the forging pro...

As the energy efficiency is a worldwide topic for sustainability in sustainable manufacturing, the industry ought to undertake the responsibility in a low energy manner. For energy efficiency, this paper proposed a novel lightweight non-holonomic spherical underactuated robot (NSUR) with lower energy consumption and fewer actuators than traditional robotics. The kinematics of a robot refers to the motion analysis, such as coordinates, velocity, and acceleration. However, current researches alway...

A Co-based tool was employed to weld TA5 alloy to investigate the effects of tool wear on the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties. Results showed that both dense diffusion and loose cracked layers were detected near the surface of as-worn tool, indicating the occurrences of both diffusional wear and abrasive wear. The stir zone (SZ) was divided into the contaminated zone (CZ) and non-contaminated zone (NCZ) according to whether tool constituents were introduced during welding. Con...

Binder jet additive manufacturing is a viable method that can be used with a variety of materials, such as metals and ceramics, and offer higher speed and reduced cost for high-volume production compared to powder bed fusion printing. However, the true potential of binder jet additive manufacturing has yet to be realized due to a significant knowledge gap in the material-process-property relationships. This study presents a robust approach to identifying ideal process parameters for binder jetti...

Vertical rolling is an important technique used to control the width of continuous casting slabs in the hot-rolling field. Accurate prediction of vertical rolling force is a core point maintaining rolling-mill equipment. Owing to the limitation of the algorithm in use, the prediction accuracy of most vertical rolling force models based on the energy method can only reach more than 10%. Therefore, it is challenging to optimize the rolling-force model to improve prediction accuracy. An innovative ...

Additive manufacturing (AM) has revolutionized and continues to revolutionize the manufacture of parts and components with complex geometries that are difficult to manufacture by traditional processes. There are many materials, including polymers, that can be used in this process. The improvement of mechanical, electrical, thermal, tribological, and magnetic properties can be achieved through the addition of filling materials to meet certain design and manufacturing requirements. This research s...
