Abstract Bearing the alkylation of alkene substrates using alcohol as solvent, catalysed by the cationic Ru-based catalyst [(C 6 H 6 )(PCy 3 )(CO)RuH] + , DFT calculations have been carried out to get mechanistic insights of such an environmental friendly reaction. A series of new rhodium (I) complexes supported by bidentate nitrogen-donor ligands with varying electronic and steric properties were synthesized in situ and evaluated for catalytic arene C−H/D activation. In trifluoroacetic acid (HTFA), these complexes are proposed to mediate H/D exchange of arene C−H/D bonds by an electrophilic aromatic substitution mechanism that involves Rh-mediated activation of HTFA (or DTFA). DFT calculations support the proposed pathway for the H/D exchange reactions.

Abstract Glycerol acetalization reaction with acetone was performed at 343 K and using a 1:1 molar ratio of glycerol to acetone in the feed over hierarchical zeolites comprising pores of different diameters (MFI, BEA, and MOR). The best catalytic performance for glycerol acetalization was exhibited by hierarchical (micro-mesoporous) MFI zeolites.
