Two cases are reported of acute idiopathic blind spot enlargement syndrome (AIBSE) that presented with peripapillary white spots in the fundus. AIBSE belongs to the acute zonal occult outer retinopathy (AZOOR) complex. Conditions of this AZOOR complex may overlap. Typically, in AIBSE, a peripapillary hyperautofluorescence is seen in the autofluorescence. En-face OCT angiography at the ellipsoid level showed hyper-reflective spots around the optic disk in both cases. One case showed a reversible ...

The case concerns a 54-year-old woman, with a history of fibromyalgia and normal preoperative ocular and systemic study, who presented with a long-lasting disabling photophobia, after sequential bilateral cataract surgery without complications. Photophobia was accompanied by good uncorrected VA, with no pain or subjective eye discomfort, without migraine or indicators of psychic conflict. It was refractory to any prescribed treatment of the ocular surface, finally responding to oral anticonvulsa...
Abstract null null Objectives null To determine the degree of agreement and differences between macular parameters according to sex, age, laterality, ethnicity and type of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in paediatric patients. null null null Materials and methods null Prospective, transversal, and comparative study. OCT Spectralis and OCT Cirrus were used to obtain the macular values of both eyes in 100 patients between 5 and 15 years without ocular pathology. Due to the similarity between t...
Abstract null null Purpose null To assess the agreement between the measurements of the distance from the medial rectus muscles insertion to the limbus measured by intra-operative spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in consecutive exotropia (cXT). null null null Methods null An analysis was performed on total of 14 medial rectus (MR) muscles of 14 patients who underwent surgery for the treatment of cXT. The limbus-insertion distance of the MR muscles was measured using preopera...

Abstract null null Purpose null To assess the vision-related quality of life and the depression and anxiety rates in patients with neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration (nAMD). null null null Methods null A cross-sectional study of patients with nAMD treated with intravitreal injections was performed. The patients completed two validated questionnaires: the Visual Functioning Questionnaire (VFQ-25, score from 0 to 100), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) questionnaire. A...

Abstract null null The use of intra-oral local anaesthetics for dental procedures is a widely extended practice that may cause side effects. As such, in rare cases it may cause ocular complications such as diplopia, ptosis, blurry vision, miosis, vision loss, or amaurosis. (Most of them are transient, recovering after several hours or days). A case is presented of a 26 year-old male patient who had visual impairment in the right eye 2 days after a dental procedure was performed. Six months later...
Abstract null null An 8-year-old boy presented with fever, vomits, bloody diarrhoea, and blurred vision. The patient was diagnosed with Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome (HUS) due to the symptoms and a positive Verotoxin stool test. Funduscopic examination showed retinal involvement in both eyes, peri-papillary paleness, retinal haemorrhages, and soft "Purtscher Fleckens” exudates. A favourable outcome was achieved after hospital admission and systemic treatment. Dialysis treatment was not needed due ...

Bilateral recurrent periorbital cellulitis is a very rare condition, with only five cases having been reported. Two cases are presented of recurrent bilateral asynchronous eyelid oedema in two paediatric patients. It was associated with respiratory infections, with no systemic disease. The patients had recurrent episodes (three times) since nine months old. They received oral and intravenous antibiotics, with a good response. There were no complications and no surgery was needed.
