Abstract Madelung's disease or multiple symmetric lipomatosis (MSL) is a rare benign disease characterized by abnormal, multiple and symmetric fat depositions in the subcutaneous layer, involving head, neck, back, trunk and also upper and lower limbs. MSL may be related to alcohol abuse or metabolic disorders; it may be both silent or clinically manifest. We describe a case of a 48-yo man with β-thalassemia admitted to medicine department for neck swelling without fever or respiratory symptoms. ...

Abstract The anomalies of the middle colic artery have rarely been reported and reviewed in literature. However, in case such anomalies are observed in clinical practice, surgery must still be performed safely. This report presents the case of a 78-years-old female who underwent ileocecal resection and hepatectomy due to ascending colon cancer with liver metastasis. Preoperative abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed an anomaly of the middle colic artery. Since such anomaly is ex...

Abstract In the midst of the national opioid crisis, it is necessary for emergency physicians and radiologists to be familiar with presentations of opioid-related complications. We describe a case report of a 51-year-old female who developed bilateral cerebellar hemorrhages following opioid and benzodiazepine overdose. Malignant cerebellar edema is a rare but recognized complication following opiate overdose in children or chronic heroin toxicity. However, acute cerebellar involvement is rarely ...

Abstract Gadolinium diethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid (Gd-DTPA) is the main contrast agent used in MRI, known for its good tolerance and rare toxicity. Even intrathecal injection of limited doses of Gadolinium can be performed in some indications. To our knowledge, only 3cases of accidental intraventricular injection of Gadolinium have been yet reported in the literature. We report the case of a 40-year-old male patient, who presented with headaches and vomiting. Brain MRI showed a right pari...

Abstract Aggressive hemangioma is a rare vertebral lesion in pediatric patients which can present with deteriorating neurological function. It can mimic malignancy on imaging, particularly as it regularly has an extrasosseous soft tissue component. We present a case of a 13-year-old male who presented with a three month history of lower extremity weakness that was found to have an infiltrative mass at T10 with associated cord compression from epidural extension of the lesion. In this report we r...

Abstract An ectopic pregnancy is the implantation of a fertilized ovum in a location other than the main cavity of the uterus. Ectopic pregnancies are reported in approximately 1%-2% of pregnancies, and while 95% of ectopic pregnancies are in fallopian tubes, only 3% are in ovarian, cervical, or abdominal sites. We present a case of a 38-year-old female with acute onset of severe lower abdominal pain, sepsis, chills, and diarrhea who was evaluated with a CT of the abdomen and pelvis with IV cont...

Abstract Pure testicular choriocarcinoma is an extremely rare subtype of nonseminomatous germ cell tumor, accounting for less than 1% of all germ cell tumors and only 0.19% of all testicular tumors. It is a highly aggressive malignant tumor with early multiorgan metastasis and poor prognosis. We present a case of 23-year-old male presented to the hospital with mild hemoptysis which was thought as a sequela of his past COVID-19 pneumonia infection, however; chest radiograph showed multiple rounde...

Coronavirus-19 disease is an acute respiratory syndrome infection that primarily infects the lungs, and may extend to other organs such as the cardiovascular system. Here we describe the case of a 90-year-old woman, affected by heart failure (NYHA, class III), with bilateral Covid-19 pneumonia, complicated by pleural and pericardial effusion. An unenhanced Computed Tomography, urgently made, allowed to hospitalize and treat the patient, monitoring her clinical situations.

Abstract Recurrent or metastatic peri-urethral pelvic malignancies are a difficult-to-treat entity. Re-resection is recommended when possible but is frequently unfavorable due to scar tissue, fibrosis, and obliteration of tissue planes following previous interventions such as surgical resection and/or radiation therapy. Curative options for patients that have unresectable cancer are limited. Cryo-ablation has been extensively studied in the treatment of unresectable renal, liver and lung maligna...
