Abstract The conductivity and thermal stability of traditional polymers are generally not ideal, consequently endowing polymer-based pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) with certain conductivity and heat resistance has become a popular design idea. Although multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) possess good electrical conductivity and thermal stability, their adhesion to the substrate is poor. Inspired by mussel chemistry, polydopamine (PDA) is adopted to modify CNTs to improve their adhesion to ...

Abstract Cellulose nanofibres (CNF) derived from spinifex grass were surface modified via grafting with an epoxidized soybean oil (ESO), which improved its hydrophobicity. The method was successfully applied to CNF-derived nanopaper, as well as a paper containing micro- and nanofibres to compare substrate morphology effects. The water absorption capacity of ESO-grafted nanopaper was reduced by 40% compared to untreated nanopaper, and the contact angle of cellulose nanopaper grafted with ESO reac...

Abstract Fabrication of highly efficient and recyclable nanoreactors via macromolecular self-assembly represents a promising strategy for green organic transformation. In this study, small-molecule catalysts 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)pyridine (DMAP) functionalized nanoreactors were constructed by self-assembly of amphiphilic block copolymers with DMAP moieties in the hydrophobic block, leading to heterogeneous catalysts with excellent dispersity in water. The key preparation route included reversible...

Abstract For the production of high-performance polyethylene fibers and tapes by ultra drawing, using solid-state processing of disentangled nascent ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), the maximum draw ratio is an important design parameter, as it determines the maximum degree of chain alignment and, therewith, the properties of the final product. It would, therefore, be advantageous to have a fast scanning method to estimate the maximum drawability of reactor powders. In the pres...

Abstract End functionalization of oligomers by the multiple H-bonding units is a feasible way to prepare the supramolecular polymers (SMPs). The crystallization of oligomer blocks and H-bonding units can lead to form the complicated double crystalline structure in SMPs; such double crystalline behavior and its correlation with the physical properties are of fundamental importance for the processing and applications of SMPs. Herein, we choose the oligomeric polycaprolactone (PCL) end-functionaliz...

Abstract Poly (4-styrenesulfonic acid) (PSSA) was used as a recoverable acid catalyst for the hydrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) to terephthalic acid (TPA) and ethylene glycol (EG). The effect of catalyst concentration, time, and temperature on the depolymerization of PET and yield of TPA were determined with PSSA and H2SO4. The PSSA system exhibited faster hydrolysis kinetics than H2SO4 with a shorter induction period than those often observed for acid hydrolysis of PET. The activat...

Abstract The heat protective performance of thermal protective fabrics is related to the multiscale structure of the fibrous material and the composite design of a multilayered fabric system. In this study, a molecular interpretation is provided to explain the structural changes within fibers to correlate with the mechanical properties of the outermost layer fabric made up of m-aramid blended with (5-10) % p-aramid upon various radiant heat exposures. An increase in crystallinity due to limited ...

Abstract Thiol-ene photopolymerization was used to generate a series of covalently crosslinked, imidazolium-containing ionene networks. A variety of counteranions were chosen so as to investigate the influence of size and basicity on the thermal, mechanical and conductive properties of the resulting networks. Anhydrous conductivities at 20 °C were found to be on the order of 10−6 to 10−10 S/cm and correlated to some degree with Tg; however, Tg-normalization of the curves indicated that this rela...

Abstract Current practices in the production and disposal of polymers follow an unsustainable trend. Foamed ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) is no exception as chemical cross-linking limits recyclability. Here, we demonstrate that we can readily control the kinetics of the cross-linking networks by changing the usage and variety of linkages with the introduction of reversible transesterification to construct EVA vitrimer. EVA vitrimer foams are prepared by physical foaming or chemical foam...

Abstract The N,N,N′-chelated 2-(1-arylimino)ethyl-8-arylimino-7,7-dimethyl-5,6- dihydroquinoline-cobalt (II) chloride complexes, Co1 (aryl = 2-(C5H9)-6-MeC6H3), Co2 (aryl = 2-(C6H11)-6-MeC6H3), Co3 (aryl = 2-(C8H15)-6-MeC6H3), Co4 (aryl = 2-(C5H9)-4,6-Me2C6H2), Co5 (aryl = 2-(C6H11)-4,6-Me2C6H2) and Co6 (aryl = 2-(C8H15)-4,6-Me2C6H3), have been isolated in reasonable yield using a simple one-pot method. The molecular structures of Co1 and Co5 emphasize not only the gem-dimethyl-substitution pres...
