Alzheimer's disease (AD), which is recognised as a devastating neurodegenerative disease throughout the world and lack of effective treatments, is a growing concern in modern society with a growing population of elderly patients. A growing number of studies reveal that abnormal accumulation and deposition of Aβ is responsible for AD. Inspired by this, strategies for the treatment of AD targeting-Aβ clearance have been discussed for a long period, exploring new drugs which is capable of destroyin...

As a non-invasive method of local and systemic drug delivery, the administration of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) via the pulmonary route represents an ideal approach for the therapeutic treatment of pulmonary diseases. The pulmonary route provides a number of advantages, including the rapid absorption which results from a high level of vascularisation over a large surface area and the successful avoidance of first-pass metabolism. Aerosolization of nanoparticles (NPs) is presently un...

Today, cancer still poses a serious threat to human, but there is no exact cure. Therefore, exploring to accomplish high therapeutic performance is a challenging and urgent task. Since the nanoparticles unique properties were discovered, they have displayed promising potential for more effective therapies and have been widely used in photodynamic therapy (PDT) and radiation therapy (RT). However, some special properties of the tumor microenvironment (TME) have seriously affected the therapeutic ...

Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent cell death pathway and participates in various diseases. Current evidence suggests that ferroptosis can obviously affect the function of blood cells. This paper aims to elaborate the role of ferroptosis in blood cells and related diseases. First, abnormal ferroptosis damages the developing red blood cells by breaking systemic iron homeostasis, leading to erythropoiesis suppression and anaemia. Ferroptosis mediates neutrophils recruitment and neutrophil extracellu...

Nanoparticles (NPs) with "stealth" properties have been designed to decrease the phagocytosis of such particles by mononuclear phagocytes and to protect them from enzymatic degradation, thus improving circulation time and bioavailability after intravenous administration. Brain-targeting modifications endow NPs with the capacity to cross the blood-brain barrier, facilitating chemotherapy for brain diseases such as glioma. In this study, newly designed alkoxy cyanoacrylate-based NPs with stealth a...

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) represent two clinically validated targets for a variety of human cancers, and dual inhibition of EGFR and VEGF(R) has demonstrated superior activity to single EGFR inhibitors. This study was to construct a novel bispecific decoy receptor VEGFR-EGFR/Fc that contains Fc portion of human IgG1 acted as molecular scaffold, and the immunoglobulin-like domain 1-3 of VEGFR1 and extracellular domain of EGFR f...

Glioblastoma is an aggressive malignancy and therapeutic options are limited due to the presence of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). RVG-29, a 29-amino-acid polypeptide derived from the rabies virus glycoprotein, has good drug-carrying capacity across the BBB. We reduced the size of this peptide to 15 amino acids (RVG-15), while retaining its capacity to cross the BBB. First, we synthesised a novel nanocarrier (RVG-15-PEG2000-DSPE). Next, DOX-loaded polymeric micelles were prepared (DOX RVG-15-PMs...

Gene therapy is a promising technology for genetic and intractable diseases. Drug delivery carriers or systems for genes and nucleic acids have been studied to improve transfection efficiency and achieve sufficient therapeutic effects. Ultrasound (US) and microbubbles have also been combined for use in gene delivery. To establish a clinically effective gene delivery system, exposing the target tissues to US is important. The three-dimensional (3D) diagnostic probe can three-dimensionally scan th...

The purpose of this research was to enhance the transdermal delivery of diclofenac sodium niosomal formulations. To characterise the obtained niosomes, SEM, XRPD, DSC and ATR-FTIR were employed. . The size of the niosomes increased from 158.00 ± 6.17 to 400.87 ± 4.99 nm when cholesterol was incorporated into the formulations. It was observed that the zeta potential of niofenac varies from -25.40 ± 1.352 to -43.13 ± 1.171 mV when the cholesterol percentage decreased from 2% to 0.2%. The higher en...
