Abstract null null The Ni-free Ti-based bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) with high glass-forming ability (GFA) can be synthesized in the (Ti, Cu, Zr)92.5Fe2.5Sn2Si1Ag2 alloy system over a wide composition range by copper-mold casting. Especially, the Ti48Cu37Zr7.5Fe2.5Sn2Si1Ag2 glassy alloy can form the BMG rod with a diameter up to 6 mm and showed a high compressive strength of ~ 2.05 GPa, elastic modulus of ~ 100 GPa, and microhardness of ~ 571 Hv. The Ti-based BMGs presented good bio-corrosion re...

Abstract This paper demonstrates how two-dimensional (2D) planar films transform into three-dimensional (3D) multi-stable structures with 3D surface wrinkling patterns by means of magnetron sputtering. The wrinkling patterns on metal films deposited on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) elastic substrates is studied. Surface wrinkling of the Al film results from compressive thermal stresses. The effects of film thickness on the wrinkling patterns regularities are investigated. It is found that 3D labyr...

Ti47Cu38−xZr7.5Fe2.5Sn2Si1Ag2Pdx (x = 1, 2, 3, and 4 atomic percent, at. pct) bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) with potential for biomedical applications were fabricated by copper-mold casting. The Ti-based BMGs exhibited high glass-forming ability (GFA) with critical diameters of 4 to 5 mm and a supercooled liquid region over 50 K, though the high contents of Pd slightly decreased the GFA. The additions of 2 and 3 at. pct Pd benefited the improvement of plasticity, and the resultant BMGs showed the...

Despite their scarcity due to synthetic challenges, supertetrahedron-based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) possess intriguing architectures, diverse functionalities, and superb properties that make them in-demand materials. Employing a new window-space-directed assembly strategy, a family of mesoporous zeolitic MOFs have been constructed herein from corner-shared supertetrahedra based on homometallic or heterometallic trimers [M3(OH/O)(COO)6] (M3 = Co3, Ni3 or Co2Ti). These MOFs consisted of clo...

Abstract The microstructures, mechanical, corrosion, and wear behaviors of the TixZrNbTaMo (x = 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2, molar ratio) high entropy alloys (HEAs) were studied. It was found that the Ti–Zr–Nb–Ta–Mo HEAs showed a dendrite structure with two body-centered-cubic (BCC) solid solution phases. The Ti0.5ZrNbTaMo HEA exhibited a high hardness of about 500 HV, high compressive strength approaching 2,600 MPa, and large plastic strain of over 30%. Furthermore, the highly-protective oxide films for...

Abstract The mechanical, electrochemical, wear, and corrosive-wear behaviors of a TiZrCuPd bulk glassy alloy were investigated. The Ti-based glassy alloy demonstrates a high yield strength of 2.3 GPa, low Young's modulus of 95 GPa, and Vickers microhardness of 7.2 GPa, which are superior to those of the Ti-6Al-4V biomedical alloy. The TiZrCuPd glassy alloy shows a good corrosion resistance in the phosphate buffer saline (PBS) solution, owing to the formation the Ti- and Zr-enriched passivation f...

Abstract In the present work, we report a high activity Ti3C2 MXene nanosheet/TiO2 (Ti3C2/TiO2) composite photocatalyst synthesized by a solvent-thermal method using tetrabutyl titanate (Ti(OBu)4) as Ti source and HF as assistant. The Ti3C2/TiO2 composites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–Vis spectroscopy (UV–vis), fluorescence spectrometer (PL) and N2 adsorption-desorption. The photocat...

ZnO thin film with different morphologies from seed, array to grass was grown by simple aqueous solution method under room temperature. The morphologies, structure, optical properties and photocatalytic properties of the samples were characterised by transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, fluorescence spectrometer, UV–Vis spectrophotometer and photocurrent response. The results showed that the ZnO arrays and grassy ZnO were both hexagonal wurtzite with...

Abstract The deformation of a tri-layer composite rubber from a mono-stable saddle, a monostable state with wrinkles, a bistable cylinder, to a bistable state with wrinkles was investigated in this work. Among these forms, the wrinkled bi-stability was a unique shape that combined two different deformations into one structure and was primarily studied. The dependence of the rubber shape on the geometric and mechanical parameters was investigated. The phase diagram for the rubber transformation p...
