Abstract Differentiation and identification of Royal Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) and Indian Leopard (Panthera pardus fusca) claws is a challenging task in wildlife forensics, due to similarity in their morphology, anatomy and chemical compositions as both the species are closely related to each other genetically. ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, which offers a non-destructive and safe alternative technique to other conventional methods, has been employed in the present work to differentiate claw...

Abstract During the past four decades (1970–2018), many papers on forensic analysis of cosmetics have been published. In an active pursuit to find a suitable technique for the analysis of cosmetic evidence which is complex in nature, newer methods and techniques have emerged over time. To the best of authors’ knowledge, no review article has been published to keep a track of technical developments in the analysis of cosmetic evidence. Therefore, in the present paper we have compiled the works do...

Abstract Analysis is carried out to estimate creep response of a rotating Al-SiCp disc with exponential SiCp gradient. The results estimated for exponential FGM disc are compared with hyperbolic FGM and non-FGM discs, having the same amount of reinforcement. The imposition of reinforcement gradient increases the radial stress throughout and tangential stress near the inside radius and but decreases the tangential stress towards the outside radius, with maximum variation observed for exponential ...

Diatoms are an essential part of forensic investigation in drowning cases. They are used to differentiate between ante-mortem and post-mortem drowning and to ascertain the site of drowning. However, to do so it is imperative to perform the diatomological mapping of water sources in different regions. The issue of localizing a drowning site may be resolved with the help of diatomological monitoring and mapping of the water sources, which generates substantial references for meeting the ‘criterion...

Onions (Allium cepa L.) is a biennial crop of the Alliaceae family with edible portion of the bulbs is the enlarged leaf bases and compact stem. A wide range of landraces and cultivars harbouring immense genetic variation for different traits are available, species like Allium cepa, A. fistulosum and A. roylei can be utilized to develop cultivars resistant against different diseases along with desirable agronomic traits. To evaluate the genetic diversity in onion, number of molecular marker syst...

Insects and other arthropods are used in different matters pertinent to the criminal justice system as they play very important role in the decomposition of cadavers. They are used as evidence in a criminal investigation to determine post mortem interval (PMI). Various researches and review articles are available on forensic entomology to determine PMI in the terrestrial environment but very less work has been reported in context to buried bodies. Burring the carcass, is one of the methods used ...

F-fluorothymidine (FLT), unlike FDG, is incorporated exclusively into DNA and is considered a specific marker of cell proliferation. The role of FLT PET/CT scan in differentiating benign from malignant pancreatobiliary tumors is unknown.Twenty-five suspected pancreatobiliary tumors on contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) scan in 23 patients were evaluated by FDG PET/CT and FLT PET/CT scans. The histopathology or fine-needle aspiration cytology was considered as criterion standard for the diagnosis. Surge...

Successful development of latent fingerprints can be helpful in solving the case but in case where fingerprints are smudged, distorted or overlapped, the question arises whether it is still possible to identify the person apart from dermatoglyphic features. Sweat residue present in the latent prints is supposed to have quite good quantity of cellular material which if analyzed properly can be used to generate forensic DNA profile of the individual and may answer the queries related to the effect...

S A T A b st ra ct s CI 0.93-1.00) and a diagnosis of adenocarcinoma (OR 0.31, 95% CI 0.13-0.71) were associated with not developing PF. Sensitivity and specificity of a postoperative serum amylase .140 U/L was 81.5% and 55.5%, respectively. Positive and negative predictive values were 29.3% and 93.0%, respectively. Conclusions: An abnormally elevated serum amylase on postoperative day one following PD is associated with a five-fold higher risk of developing a pancreatic fistula. This readily av...
