We focused on the relative number of flying adult caddisflies on the river surface captured by sticky board traps with the aim of elucidating differences in the distribution pattern of caddisfly larvae along the slope in the middle reaches of the Shinano River. The underwater silk threads of a caddisfly larva, Stenopsyche marmorata, is composed of four kinds of proteins, which are designated as Smsp-1 to -4. Larval silk/cement proteins from a caddisfly, Stenopsyche marmorata, were isolated as a protein mixture of Smsp-1, 2, 3 and 4.
