Abstract Lankford coefficient (r-value) is an important parameter for metal sheet. For sheet metals with obvious Portevin-Le Chatelier (PLC) effect, the r-values are difficult to measure owing to the occurrence of inhomogeneous deformation. In this paper, the PLC bands of AA3104-H19 sheet were investigated by uniaxial tensile test with digital image correlation (DIC) technology. The evolutions of strain-rate sensitivity (SRS) in two slip modes, basal and prismatic in AZ31B alloy sheet, were studied at different temperatures with both experiments and simulations. With increasing deformation temperature, the AZ31B alloy sheet becomes more sensitive to strain rate under rolling direction tension. The hot deformation behaviors of the SJTU-1 alloy, the high-throughput scanned casting Nickel-based superalloy, was investigated by compression test in the temperature range of 900 to 1200 °C and strain rate range of 0.1–0.001 s−1. Abstract The mechanical behaviors and damage evolutions of carbon/epoxy woven fabric composites with three different geometries, i.e., one plain weave and two twill weave patterns with different areal densities, are studied under tensile loading.
