To evaluate the effect of incision types for Artisan phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) implantation on ocular higher-order aberrations (HOAs).A retrospective review was conducted of the patients who had undergone Artisan PIOL implantation for the correction of myopia and followed up for at least 6mo. Patients are classified into 2 groups considering the incision type: cornea group with patients undergone clear corneal incision; sclera group with patients undergone sclera tunnel incision. All patien...

Purpose: To investigate the effects of intranasal steroid spray after silicone tube intubation in nasolacrimal duct obstruction. Methods: We included 73 patients (73 eyes) who had undergone silicone tube intubation with partial nasolacrimal duct obstruction and who had been followed-up for more than 6 months. We divided them into two groups: Group 1 (37 patients, 37 eyes), who used intranasal steroid spray twice a day for 4 weeks after silicone tube intubation, and Group 2 (36 patients, 36 eyes)...

Background The aim of this study was to determine whether implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation to correct myopia is an effective and safe surgical option even after long-term follow up. Design A retrospective observational study was carried out. Participants A total of 281 eyes of 145 myopic patients were included in the study. Methods Patients underwent ICL implantation and had the follow-up period of at least 5 years (87 ± 18.9 months). Main Outcome Measures Outcome measures included u...

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical effect of 3% diquafosol in dry eye patients aged around 60 years. Methods: In total, 68 patients with dry eye syndrome were divided by age into 2 groups, Group I (29 patients, 29 eyes) under the age of 60 years and Group II (39 patients, 39 eyes) over the age of 60 years. To evaluate the effectiveness of 3% diquafosol, we measured the tear film break-up time (tBUT), performed the Schirmer I test, and used the corneal staining score as a...

Abstract Purpose To evaluate the clinical effect of orthokeratology (ortho-K) lenses and to introduce the fitting steps of ortho-K lens for myopic regression after keratorefractive surgery. Methods Twenty-one eyes from 12 patients with myopic regression after keratorefractive surgery were fitted with ortho-K lenses and followed up for 12.11±3.68 months. The mean K value of the peripheral cornea was used to speculate preoperative central corneal K value, estimated K . After dispensing the lenses ...

This study reports the efficacy and safety of Pattern Scan Laser (PASCAL) photocoagulation in the removal of superficial conjunctival nevi. Superficial conjunctival nevi were removed from 10 eyes of 10 patients using PASCAL. The laser spots were 200 μm in size, and the power delivered ranged from 250 to 300 mW. The duration of the laser pulse was kept at the minimum needed for adequate lesion removal. The duration of the laser pulse administered to the patients varied from 100 to 200 ms. Complet...

Purpose: To investigate the biological effects of preservative-free artificial tear drops on cultured human corneal epithelial cells in vitro. Methods: The effects of the preservative-free artificial tear drops (Kynex 0.1%, Kynex II 0.18% [Alcon, Seoul, Korea] and Hyaluni eye drops 0.15%, 0.3% [Taejun, Seoul, Korea]) on the human corneal epithelial cells were evaluated. An methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT)-based colorimetric assay was performed to assess the cellular metabolic activity and a la...
