Several reports on the chemical termination of silicon nitride films after HF etching, an important process in the microelectronics industry, are inconsistent claiming N-Hx, Si-H, or fluorine termination. A facile route to generate cyclic peptide nanotubes with tunable interiors is presented. By incorporating 3-amino-2-methylbenzoic acid in the d,l-alternating primary sequence of a cyclic peptide, a functional group can be presented in the interior of the nanotubes without compromising the formation of high aspect ratio nanotubes. Synthesis of molecular building blocks that incorporate azide and alkyne-terminated functionalities suitable for CuI-catalyzed cycloaddition between alkynes and azides is reported. Their utility in constructing dendritic frameworks with 4, 6, or 12 peripheral acetylene groups using either the convergent or divergent methodology, and their functionalization with desirable end groups are demonstrated.
