Results: Retinal detachment (51 cases, 47%) was the most common surgery which used PFCL intraoperatively. Other causes were vitreous hemorrhage (24 cases, 22%), posteriorly dislocated lens (22 cases, 21%), and trauma (11 cases, 10%). Intraocular PFCL was found in a total of 9 (8.3%) eyes. PFCL bubbles remained in anterior chamber and vitreous cavity were observed in 4 cases and subretinal retained PFCL was observed in 5 cases. Three of 5 cases of subretinal PFCL exhibited in subfoveal space. Amo...

AbstractPurpose: To evaluate morphologic differences in isolated inferior medial orbital wall fractures (OWF) based on computed tomography scans. Methods: This was a retrospective observational case study of 22 patients with an isolated inferior OWF and 32 patients with an isolated medial fracture between January 2008 and August 2010. We analyzed patient demographics and bony radiologic characteristics on CT scans, including the length and height of the lamina papyracea, the number of ethmoid air...

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the stability and sterility of bevacizumab (Avastin, Genentech, Inc., San Francisco, CA, USA) after withdrawal into multiple doses from single-use vials. Methods: Bevacizumab was repeatedly and aseptically drawn from new vials into 1 cc plastic syringes and refrigerated in the dark at 4°C for 0, 3, 6, 12, 28, 38, 46, 52, or 63 weeks or at -10°C for 0, 3, 6, 12, 38, 46, or 52 weeks. The stability of bevacizumab was assessed by enzyme-linked immunosor...

A 66-year-old man was referred to our clinic with decreased vision in the left eye. Nine days earlier, the patient had had uneventful phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in the left eye. The preoperative examination showed a cortical nuclear cataract and a normal fundus. One day post surgery, visual acuity in the left eye had deteriorated, and at the time of referral, the corrected distance visual acuity was 20/160. Fundus biomicroscopy and optical coherence tomography s...

Purpose: To identify the correlation between final visual outcome after at least 6 months of follow-up and the extent of macular ischemia on the first visit. Methods: We performed a retrospective clinical analysis of macular ischemia using clinical records, fundus examinations, and fluorescein angiographies in 83 patients (86 eyes) diagnosed with retinal vein occlusion from January 1998 to July 2012 and followed up for over 6 months. We evaluated the extent and the location of macular ischemia, ...

To evaluate the effect of intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) before Ahmed valve implantation for treatment of neovascular glaucoma (NVG). This study is a retrospective, comparative, consecutive case series. The study group consisted of 27 eyes of 26 patients with NVG who underwent an Ahmed valve implantation. Thirteen eyes were treated with Ahmed valve implantation alone (control group), and 14 eyes were treated with a combination of preoperative IVB injection and Ahmed valve implantation (IVB group...

AbstractContext: We describe a case of acute retinal toxicity caused by an intraocular foreign body composed of a cobalt alloy.Case presentation: A 36-year-old man presented to an outside clinic with a traumatic cataract and corneal laceration of his left eye, which had occurred while grinding a shelf. The lacerated cornea was closed primarily and the traumatic cataract was phacoemulsified. He was transferred to our hospital due to identification of a metallic intraocular foreign body in the vit...

Breast cancer is the most common primary source of orbital metastasis. Metastasis occurs through hematogenous spread and predominantly involves the choroid. We present a case of a metastatic subconjunctival mass associated with primary breast cancer. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of its kind. A 41-year-old woman presented with complaints of conjunctival injection and a foreign body sensation in the left eye. She had a history of breast cancer and had been treated 2 years prev...
