Abstract This paper offers a new perspective on the effectiveness of sanctions in influencing information security policy compliance. We observe compliance from a group perspective to identify undeterrable employees who comply based on inner conviction and deterrable employees who comply because of external coercion. Drawing upon survey data, we show that multilevel sanctions (i.e., formal, social, and personal sanctions) have a varying impact on the compliance of inclined and disinclined employ...

Process mining is a big data analytics technique that supports business process management in an evidence-based way. Nowadays, companies struggle to build the required capabilities that lift process mining beyond technical proof-of-concept implementations. As research on process mining is largely limited to algorithm design and project management recommendations, current research does not understand well how process mining and complementary resources and capabilities can be aligned. By understan...

Abstract Digital transformation offers organizations opportunities to involve intrapreneurs, i.e., employees sharing the zeal of entrepreneurs, but innovating within organizational boundaries through the generation of new ideas. Despite organizations’ interest in exploiting their employees’ innovation potential, tools as digital intrapreneurship platforms guiding and hosting this innovation process are limited and their design is challenging. Thus, we provide the results of an action design rese...

Abstract Shadow information technology (IT) usage and justifications, which make shadow IT usage socially acceptable, are major challenges for managers. This study contributes to a better understanding of both the concepts. The results show significant differences between shadow IT users and nonusers in the degree to which they accept justifications in light of IT constraints, in particular, in the situational factors driving this acceptance. While perceived noncompliance of others influences sh...
