Tumor spread through air spaces (STAS) in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is known to influence a poor patient outcome, even in patients presenting with early-stage disease. However, the pre-operative diagnosis of STAS remains challenging. With the progress of radiomics-based analyses several attempts have been made to predict STAS based on radiological findings. In the present study, patients with NSCLC which is located peripherally and tumors ≤ 2 cm in size on computed tomography (CT) that ...

Fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) imaging is a key sequence for stroke assessment. Motion artifact reduction with short acquisition time is still challenging, but necessary in the magnetic resonance (MR) stroke protocol, especially for uncooperative patients suspected of stroke. The aim of this study is to investigate the feasibility of modified single-shot FLAIR with wide inversion recovery pulses for use in stroke patients. This is a prospective study, which included 30 patients clin...

ABSTRACT Staff are exposed to radiation in the scanning room when assisting with CT scans of patients requiring ventilatory support during procedures. We measured lens doses using a phantom during a high-energy trauma protocol. Dosimetry showed that the unprotected lens received 2.02 mGy on the right and 1.91 mGy on the left, which are not negligible doses. Respective exposures to the right and left lens were 53.6% and 55.1% when wearing 0.07 mm Pb protective glasses with side covers; 53.7% and ...

PURPOSE Computed tomography (CT)-based attenuation correction (CTAC) in single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is highly accurate, but it requires hybrid SPECT/CT instruments and additional radiation exposure. To obtain attenuation correction (AC) without the need for additional CT images, a deep learning method was used to generate pseudo-CT images has previously been reported, but it is limited because of cross-modality transformation, resulting in misalignment and modality-specifi...

A 77-year-old man presented with an incidental finding of right renal artery aneurysm without symptoms. Computed tomography revealed a 22 mm saccular aneurysm with a wide neck at the main renal artery trunk. An 8 × 100 mm Viabahn stent graft (W. L. Gore, Flagstaff, AZ) was deployed by fully pulling back the guiding sheath. However, the deployment knob was not able to be pulled. We returned the guiding sheath to the original position and confirmed the cause was the bowstring phenomenon. Because a...

Objective We aimed to evaluate the prevalence of pulmonary embolism (PE) before cancer therapies in patients with ovarian and endometrial cancers with enhanced computed tomography (CT) using D-dimer (DD), and determine the optimal cut-off level of DD. Methods Since 2009, we have performed preoperative venous thromboembolism (VTE) screening of patients with ovarian and endometrial cancer. For patients with DD levels of more than 1.0 μg/ml, enhanced CT images were obtained from the pulmonary apex ...

A 71-year-old man who received a total arch replacement with a knitted Dacron® graft presented aneurysmal sac re-expansion due to leakage at the distal anastomotic site of the graft. He did not tolerate the stress of general anesthesia due to severe pulmonary function impairment. Therefore, thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) in zone 3 was performed under epidural anesthesia. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed another leakage into the aneurysmal sac in zone 1 after perfo...

This study aimed to research the post-treatment quality of life (QOL) between radiotherapy (RT)- and operation (OP)-treated early cervical cancer survivors, using separate questionnaires for physicians and patients. We administered an observational questionnaire to patients aged 20-70 years old with Stages IB1-IIB cervical cancer who had undergone RT or OP and without recurrence as outpatients for ≥6 months after treatment. We divided 100 registered patients equally into two treatment groups (n ...

Abstract A 78-year-old man presented with lymphatic fluid collections in bilateral inguinal area after bilateral inguinal lymph node dissections. Because no inguinal or popliteal lymph nodes were observed under ultrasound examination, intranodal lymphangiography was not applicable. Although traditional pedal lymphangiography was required, it was difficult to perform this procedure owing to the decreasing frequency over the past 20 years and being unavailable in not only our institution, but also...

OBJECTIVE The impact of clinical information on radiological diagnoses and subsequent clinical management has not been sufficiently investigated. This study aimed to compare diagnostic performance between radiological reports made with and without clinical information and to evaluate differences in the clinical management decisions based on each of these reports. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 410 patients who presented with acute abdominal pain and underwent unenhanced (n = 248) or enhance...
