OBJECTIVE Investigate the gut microbiome in progressive multiple sclerosis (MS) and how it relates to clinical disease. Summary The microbiome plays an important role in multiple sclerosis. In a recent issue of Nature, Miyauchi et al. report that gut microbial molecular mimicry in concert with gut microbes that enhance Th17 cells act synergistically to worsen CNS autoimmunity.
