Based on 22 semi-structured interviews, this article explores the experiences of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) graduate students in the social sciences and humanities at a medium-sized comprehensive university in Canada. This article explores how racialization and colonialism shape the experiences of BIPOC graduate students in the graduate-level classroom. BIPOC students may experience the classroom as a space of alterity, where they are made to feel alien and are pushed to represent their entire group; as a space of hostility where they encounter stereotypes and microaggressions; and, as a space in which they are burdened with emotionally-taxing pedagogical labour to educate peers and faculty on issues of race and colonialism. However, BIPOC students also engage in resistance, especially refusing the burdens associated with racism and colonialism and find strength in solidarity with other BIPOC students.Basé sur 22 entrevues semi-structurées, cet article explore les expériences des étudiants diplômés noirs, autochtones et de couleur (< BIPOC > en anglais) en sciences sociales et humaines dans une université polyvalente de taille moyenne au Canada. Cet article explore la façon dont la racialisation et le colonialisme façonnent les expériences des étudiants de deuxième cycle de ces communautés dans la salle de classe de deuxième cycle. Les étudiants BIPOC peuvent vivre la salle de classe comme un espace d'altérité, où ils se sentent étrangers et sont poussés à représenter l'ensemble de leur groupe; comme un espace d'hostilité où ils sont confrontés à des stéréotypes et des microagressions; et comme un espace dans lequel ils sont chargés d'un travail pédagogique émotionnellement éprouvant pour éduquer leurs pairs et les professeurs sur les questions de race et de colonialisme. Cependant, les étudiants BIPOC s'engagent également dans la résistance, refusant notamment les fardeaux associés au racisme et au colonialisme, et trouvent leur force dans la solidarité avec d'autres étudiants BIPOC.
