This study investigated the structural, chemical, and multi-scale mechanical properties of windmill palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) leaf sheath fiber, which were frequently wasted. Significant variation was observed in fiber diameter and cross-sectional morphology among different layers in a single leaf sheath, whereas the chemical composition, relative crystallinity index, and the microfibrillar angle (MFA) of palm fibers were almost the same among different layers. Windmill palm fibers had low ce...

Abstract Natural fibers are one of the abundant resources that exist in nature. They are easily decomposable, bio degradable, renewable and cost efficient. It can be extorted from various plant & animal resources. They are used as reinforcement material in polymers for the growth of natural-fiber composites. The mechanical properties of epoxy resin, reinforced with various natural fiber materials/agricultural by product particles are compared in the present study. This review intends to provide ...

Abstract In present years, there has been a rapid attention in development and research in natural fibre based polymer composites due to their better formability, abundant, renewable, cost-effective and eco-friendly features. Dynamic Mechanical analysis plays an important role in measuring the properties such as storage modulus (G′), loss modulus (G″), damping capability (Tan δ). This fact helps us to summarise the studies, hence a review on tribological and dynamic mechanical analysis has been ...

Abstract In this paper, two types of natural fibers (jute fiber and cotton fiber) were arranged in different cross-section positions on natural fiber-reinforced epoxy composites (NFR-EC) by using a novel hole arrangement–threading–glue filling method. A three-point bending experiment was carried out to reveal the flexural response, failure types, and energy absorption properties of NFR-EC. An analytical model was applied to analyze the force distribution of natural fibers and epoxy in NFR-EC. Re...

Abstract The flexural properties and impact resistance of the composites with bamboo cellulosic fiber (BF) weight fractions ranging from 4% to 16% was investigated using a universal testing machine and a full instrumented drop weight impact system, respectively. The effect of addition of BF on the flexural properties and impact resistance of the composites was estimated according to max flexural strength, fracture toughness, the contact force, failure pattern and absorbed energy. On the basis of...

Abstract The aim of the present study is to improve the flexural, thermal stability and dynamic mechanical properties of epoxy composites by reinforcing date palm fibres (DPF) at different loading (40%, 50% and 60% by wt.) and to evaluate the best loading through hand lay-up technique. Three point bending dynamic properties in terms of storage modulus (E′), loss modulus (E″) damping factor, Cole–Cole plot and thermal properties were analyzed by dynamic mechanical and thermogravimetric analyser, ...

Abstract A dynamic mechanical analysis was undertaken to determine the influence of moisture on the mechanical properties of interwoven hemp/polyethylene terephthalate (PET) hybrid composites. Composite laminates were fabricated using vacuum infusion process; form epoxy resin reinforced with interwoven hemp and PET fibres. Woven hemp, woven PET, and interwoven hemp/PET hybrid composites were produced. The hybrid hemp/PET composites yielded the highest final residue % due to the PET fibres which ...
