The role of the interplay between reduction in in-plane properties, interlaminar enhancements, and damage arrest mechanisms remain to be fully understood. This paper presents findings from a numerical investigation of compression failure of a z-pinned laminate with impact damage using multiscale progressive damage analysis techniques. These techniques track interlaminar and ply failure processes in a specimen containing impact damage patterns from recent experiments. The investigations undertaken provide insight into z-pinning as a damage arrestment feature against CAI failure.
