Herein, two new Schiff bases based on Chromene (AIMCH and MIMCH) were synthesized as green corrosion inhibitors through a simple condensation reaction. The anti-corrosion efficiencies of the compounds for carbon steel in a 15% HCl environment were investigated by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Potentiodynamic polarization revealed that both of the inhibitors behaved as a mixed-type inhibitor with the dominant cathodic effect. SEM-EDX analysis indicated the formation of a protective film on the steel surface, causing a reduction in the surface adsorption of Cl− on the metal substrate. Furthermore, the antioxidant activities of the Schiff bases were investigated by FRAP test. The results of FRAP test showed that iron reduction and consequently the antioxidant property of AIMCH were higher than that of MIMCH due to more effective acetamido functional group with the high electron density on the phenyl ring compared to methoxy group in MIMCH.
