As a non-destructive mechanical property test method, the ball indentation method can evaluate the material properties of in-service equipment without destroying the sample. But traditional nanoindenters are expensive. Therefore, this paper designs a new indenter based on the load teste. In this study, the yield strength and tensile strength of metal Q345 were measured by conventional tensile test and indentation test, and the data were compared and analyzed. The final test results show that the relative error between the yield strength and the tensile strength measured by the indenter and the data measured by the conventional tensile test are within -8%. The superiority of the performance of the indenter was verified, and the feasibility of the indenter to determine the mechanical properties of the metal was verified.
