High temperature and ultraviolet light result in serious aging of asphalt binder and asphalt pavement. Research on asphalt aging mechanism has been widely studied to enhance the aging resistance. And many performance indicators were defined and used to quantify asphalt aging degrees, but their correlations are still unknown. This review summaries studies related to asphalt performance indicators changed by aging conditions, in order to link the performance indicators and aging degrees. Results show that relationship between the change rate of phase angle and the standard laboratory aging degrees is the closest compared with other rheological indicators. Phase angle is a favorable indicator to judge asphalt aging degrees. The change rates of absorbance area from spectrophotometry analysis and change rates of integral area from fluorescence spectroscopy analysis can be used as the reference for judging asphalt aging degree as well. Predication equations of aging degrees from viscosity, rheological properties, microscopic composition, functional group, surface morphology, average molecular size were established. These findings can be used as references to estimate the aging degrees by asphalt performance indicators, and further predict the pavement performance successfully. The optimal maintenance opportunity of pavement can be decided in terms of the change law of asphalt performance, which is of great significance to environmental protection and reduce maintenance cost.
