Objective:To determine the total saponin content of root and rhizome of Acanthopanax senticosus in different growth period and the different plant age and to decide the best harvest time.Methods:By ultrasonic extraction-spectrophotometric to measure the total saponin content in roots of Acanthopanax senticosus,using SPSS13.0 for statistical analysis.Results:The total saponin content of the roots in different growth period and the different plant age showed a regular change.Conclusion:With comprehensive analysis of all factors,for Acanthopanax the best harvest in late October period can be determined.
